It’s all very well that you have this great looking blog that your so proud of, but if no body comes to visit then whats the point of having a blog. It’s like making the effort of keeping your house clean everyday in case friends happen to drop by then only to find that no one hardly ever shows up.

Every little bit of effort that you apply to your blog rewards you ten fold and trust me when I say that there are a few tricks that you can apply to make your blog rank high in the search engines and have a constant flow of traffic on a daily bases that keeps on growing day by day.

Making your blog popular and visible requires a few tricks and within this blog I will explain tricks that I use which always work, but for this post I am going to explain the first thing that I do to help get the word out there about my blog.

Blog directories in my opinion are a crucial and most important way of getting recognition for your you and your blog.
There are many blog directories you can join totally free which give your blog firm grounding for long term free advertising.

Blog directories allow you to submit you blogs URL and a short description of your blog. It also gives other people a chance to find your blog when going through the different blogs categorized amongst many others.
What makes blog directories even more important is the fact that it allows you to have a link of your blogs URL permanently out there for people to find. Also it allows other bloggers to find your blog and that’s where friendships start to form. My favourite blog directory is Blogcatalogue because not only does it give you a place to add your URL to but has great community of bloggers who you can interact with.
One of the many great features about Blogcatalog is that you can create a friends list. This means that anyone who asks to be your friend or anyone you want to be friends can do so. You will then receive an email to tell you someone has added you as a friend and then you can decide if you want to return the same courtesy and add them. Or you can just ask someone to visit your site in return for visiting theirs. This gives you leverage when it comes to getting your name out there because you will show up in your friends list & them in yours. People will go in search to find good quality friends depending on the type of blog they have. You can also check who has looked at your profile and then if you want to you can add them also as friends. By adding friends you will created for yourself a very powerful network of people that just keeps growing on auto pilot which them gives your blog more exposure.

My favorite feature about Blogcatalog is that you can also broadcast a topic for discussion, in other words you can ask a question or give an opinion and then the message is shout casted to thousands of other members who can respond if they wish. This gives you the opportunity to fine tune what people are interested in and therefore allows you to create topics of interests for your blog topics.

From my personal experience, I discovered that there are quite a few good blog directories you can join and many not so good. The important thing is though that you are distributing your blogs URL out there on the web, and the more you do this, the more your blog will not only be easier to find but also will rank better in the search engines because it makes your blog seem more important if you are links all over the place.

Website or blog building is an art in my opinion because from the moment a new visitor comes to your site he or she will decide in seconds whether or not your site is worth the look or not.
Websites or blogs that are not visually stimulating hardly get a second visit from the same person and the reason why is because nothing appeals to them. You may well have a site that has the best information anywhere on the net but we humans are visual creatures that require our attention with the eyes first before anything else.

If you want your site to stand out from the crowd and not look a boring place full of words, you’ve got to invest a little into sprucing up that tired looking old text base template.
You might be surprised to know that getting good quality images for your site is not that expensive at all, in fact you can get yourself an average size image that relates to pretty much an subject for about one dollar.
Think about that for a moment, one measly dollar can make a huge difference to your site in seconds which is enough time for the average visitor to engage in your subject matter.
Good old fashioned eye candy requires little effort provided you do it legally.
Copyright is something taken very seriously and rightly so, after all why should someone just come along and steal your work and use it for their profit.
Places like Flicker and photo sharing networks have royalty images for use, but they always come with conditions that require certain ways of displaying someone elses photos.

The internet has some good quality stock image shops that allow you to buy photos that you can use on your site for very little money. Some more expensive than others, and some have a more strict criteria.

I found a website that sells excellent quality images and videos that are royalty free and can be used on your site for very little money. Prices start from as little as one dollar for a small decent sized photo to much larger ones. These photos can be used for non commercial use and are excellent for any website provided you don’t use them for selling the images.
Other licenses that are available allow you to pay extra but give you commercial use.

Fotolia is my favorite place to buy royalty free photos because unlike many others, their prices are affordable and their conditions of use are fair and easy to understand.

Well have no fear because there is a good alternative.

If you don’t have pay per click ads on your site then really you could be missing out on a good extra amount of revenue.
Pay per click ads give you revenue just from people clicking the ads on your site, which may only be a few cents per click but when you eventually generate a lot of traffic to your site, these clicks you receive on your ads usually start to bringing in decent amounts of money.
I found that the more popular your website, the more advertisers are willing to pay per click when advertising through you site.
Pay per click ads are great because they give you extra revenue for just letting advertisers put ads on your site, therefore its an easy way to make some extra dough.

I’ve been putting websites together for nearly 3 years now and can claim to have tried most of the big brand companies out there that offer a pay per click service. I found most of them to be junk, honestly, the amount of money you receive which is usually 0.7 of 1 cent per click is just pure garbage and considering that most of them have a set minimum amount that you have to make before they pay you which in many cases is around a hundred dollars, meaning that you probably won’t get paid until your about a hundred years of age anyway.

Like many, I joined G…gle’s pay per click program when I first started internet marketing and for some reason, I was booted out of the program, never receiving an answer that I could understand. Later finding that G…gle does not allow you to put ads on your site if you are going to use traffic exchange networks, which is what I did and only myself to blame for not reading the terms and conditions.
I’m not bitter towards G…gle, even though I have tried to get back into their program and failed, but from what I hear it’s just about impossible to get back into once kicked out.
Nevertheless I have moved on and found an alternative which is very good and judging from forums and pay per click reviewers that I have read about, claim that Abrite is the second best on the internet next to G…gle.

Abrite is an advertisers and publishers market place, meaning that advertisers purchase or rather rents a space on your site and pays you if someone clicks on their ads. Publishers are people like me who have a blog and rents out my free space to put ads onto and gets paid if one of my visitors clicks on my ad.
The good thing about Adbrite compared to the other pay per click programs is that for me anyway, pays me the best amount of money per click, and even pays me if no one clicks on my ads. It may only be 2 or 3 cent per day if no one clicks on my ads but considering that most other programs give you nothing, then Adbrite is then the most generous system.

I’m glad I found Adbrite because it’s given me hope now that I finally found an alternative to G…gle.
If you don’t have a free membership with Adbrite then go and join up with them right now. Don’t waste your time with others. My experience has favored Abrite above all others and I’m sure you will agree if you give them a go.
